Gordini Elias Gauntlet

Best protection

Brand: Gordini

Model: Elias Gauntlet

Our take Until they make gloves out of metal, the burly Elias will do. It shrugged off slushy snow and ski edges alike with a tough, work glove-style sheepskin leather palm and 70-denier woven nylon on the back of the hand. The weather resistance goes all the way into the liners: The Elias has removable fleece inners with wind-resistant Gore-Tex Infinium, making them breathable enough to skin with alone, yet warm and weatherproof enough to withstand snow showers. The pre-curved fingers gripped wet gear easily, while a cinchable, over-the-wrist gauntlet sealed out spindrift. Ding: While we could tie and untie from a rope, the Elias is a little too thick for more dexterous work.

Trail cred “I blow through gloves every year handling skis, ice tools, and crampons, but the nylon on the back of the hand and the wraparound sheepskin fingertips survived a season of heavy use without coming apart,” our tester says.
