Brand: Helly Hansen Gear Reviews

Model: K Barrier Down Insulator

OUR TAKE This 800-fill down jacket is an excellent addition to any kid’s layering system. It’s lightweight and packs down into its own pocket to the size of a soft- ball, but doesn’t skimp on warmth. On a 3°F day resort skiing in Colorado, one adult needed a break to warm up while her son begged for another lap.

THE DETAILS A slim, hoodless profile lets kids wear the K Barrier under shells or snowsuits. The elastic cuffs and hem help keep out the chill, while a PFC-free DWR coating wards off light sprinkles.

TRAIL CRED “On a camping trip near Crested Butte, Colorado, our tiny tester charged through dense brush, but the polyester face fabric didn’t suffer any snags,” our photo editor says.
