Gear Test: Outdoor Research Motiva Pants
The Backpacker gear ladies try out these tough OR pants.
Outdoor Research Motiva Pants
“They’re the only pair of pants I wore all winter,” said our tester, who used the Motivas while snowshoeing, mountaineering, and backcountry skiing. The Gore WindStopper soft-shell fabric blocks icy wind, while the microfleece lining boosts warmth and wicks well. Technically, the seam-taped Motivas are water-resistant (as opposed to fully waterproof), but unless you’re sitting in a puddle you won’t notice the difference. Vents run the length of the thigh, removable mesh gaiters thwart snow, and a high back prevents a drafty gap. $250; 1 lb. 6 oz. (M); XS to XL (888) 467-4327; outdoorresearch.com.
