Gear Review: Woolrich Topo/Sunrise Bluff Sun Shirt

This button-down sun shirt has a high collar and UPF 30 fabric.

For her: Our tester swears by Woolrich’s Sunrise Bluff Shirt, after it literally saved her skin on a sun-baked backpacking trip along Minnesota’s Superior Hiking Trail. The button-down dried fast, wicked well, and bolstered sun protection with a high collar and UPF 30 fabric. She says, “The polyester/spandex blend feels cottony-soft, and the three-quarter-length sleeves let in cooling breezes and roll up and secure with buttons when you need less coverage.”

The hiker-friendly design includes shoulder seams that are placed well away from pack straps. The men’s version (Topo, $70; pictured) is almost identical, but has full-length sleeves and a map pocket. $45; woolrich.com
