Gear Review: V&#214lkl Nunataq

Want a big, fat board that’s light enough for days of touring? Grab the Nunataqs and get going. At 107mm underfoot, it has huge float without being unwieldy or difficult to maneuver. An early-rise tip skims over imperfect (i.e. anything but champagne) conditions. And the damp, flexible feel (a result of an extra light, multilayer wood core) makes it just as fun in soft bumps as it is in the pow.

Testers called it “solid,” “nimble,” and “great at holding an edge at high speed”; several couldn’t come up with anything negative to say about it at all. Those who did find fault said it was a tad too soft when the snow pack transitioned from fluff to wind crust, causing the ski to chatter.
