Gear Review: The North Face Jakson Jacket

Warmth where you need it most; mobility and breathability where it counts. That’s the verdict from our tester who wore the Jakson nearly nonstop for six days of skiing and camping in Iceland, plus multiple spring trips in the Rockies. The hybrid design combines PrimaLoft Eco and wind-snubbing Pertex Microlight strategically placed over your core and breathable Polartec Power Stretch through the arms.

This form-fitting jacket “was just right for wearing over a short sleeve baselayer while I was skinning up steep slopes in cool 30 to 40°F weather,” reports our tester. “The stretchy sleeves (with thumbholes) were just enough to stave off goosebumps, yet let my body heat quickly escape through the breathable fabric.”

Nitpick: The cut is slightly short for prime mobility.
