Gear Review: Stoic Luft Down Sweater Jacket

An ideal down midlayer made with 750-fill down and a Pertex Microlight shell.

“From the midwinter day it arrived until the daffodils were blooming, this midweight, trim-fitting toaster was my go-to jacket,” says our tester. Made from 750-fill down and a Pertex Microlight shell, it packs down to melon size, so she never begrudged it pack space.

“The fleece-lined, to-the-chin collar and stretchy-knit nylon cuffs lock in warmth without any rubbing or scratching, and the hourglass torso shape is as thermally efficient as it is flattering,” says one tester of the women’s version. The men’s model has panels of synthetic insulation under the arms, which should better handle moisture buildup (we only tested the women’s version).

Ding: While the handwarmer pockets have a nice fuzzy lining, their low position means they’re blocked when you wear a pack.
