Gear Review: Saucony ProGrid Razor Trail Shoe

Built for nasty winter conditions, this midweight winter running shoe keeps your feet warm and well supported.

Full Weather Protection

Don’t let nasty weather stop your workout; get the Razor and hit the trail. It’s a midweight runner with two layers of protection: an eVent waterproof/breathable membrane that lines the mesh upper, and a welded softshell ankle gaiter that keeps wet stuff from coming in over the top. The zippered gaiter closes with a Velcro tab–it’s breathable, wind- and water- resistant, and soft enough that it doesn’t rub when you’re running.

The Vibram sole was grippy even on slimy wet and occasionally icy trails; springy cushioning in the heel and forefoot stand up to pounding runs; and the plastic shank provides more protection and a more gradual flex than the Ahnu, a plus for rougher trails and longer miles. “The gaiter adds weight, but it also adds warmth,” reports one diehard winter runner. “My toes stayed warm in subfreezing temps, which meant I could run longer.” Best for medium-width feet. $135; 1 lb.
