Gear Review: Redington Sonic-Pro Ultra Packable Waders

Brand: Redington

Model: Sonic-Pro Ultra Packable

These wispy waders are about 30 percent lighter and less bulky than a typical pair, and they pack down to cantaloupe-size when stuffed into their own pocket. Our tester waded away from the densely brushy shoreline of a Washington lake and managed perfect, snag-free backcasts in comfort. The waterproof/breathable fabric has welded (saves weight and bulk over traditional stitching) and double-taped seams. Neoprene booties and gravel guards (which are like integrated gaiters for waders) and a removable tool pouch make the Sonic-Pros remarkably full-featured—not stripped down—for their weight.

Caveat:The lightweight fabric requires gentler handling than standard waders. $290; unisex S-XXL in regular, short, long, and king; 1 lb. 15 oz. (L); redington.com
