Gear Review: Redfeather Conquest Snowshoes

$70 snowshoes that perform.

[bargain]

“Too expensive” is no longer an excuse for not investing in snowshoes. At $70, the Conquest is less than half the price of any other quality adult snowshoe we could find. And performance was far from cut-rate. Redfeather keeps costs down with an injection-molded nylon decking that’s seriously tough. Our Missoula tester called the Conquests “indestructible” after using them around camp to dig snow caves and rig deadman anchors for his tent in winter storms.

The Conquest felt secure and comfortable on packed trail and over rolling hills, and flotation was good in fresh powder (despite the fact that our tester was 25 pounds over the 175-pound suggested weight limit). But when the grade gets steeper than around 25 degrees, the Conquest falls short because the crampon is fairly tame, and the binding doesn’t offer enough torsional support on

long sidehills. $70; 4 lbs. 6 oz.; 25 inches; redfeather.com
