Gear Review: Polarmax Acclimate Merino Wool Pants

Three-season wool and polyester pants.

[winter workhorse]

These 3-season pants blend the best characteristics of wool and polyester yarns in one garment. “It’s a super-warm baselayer” our New York tester reported after multiple days of alpine climbing and skiing. The mesh weave is soft against the skin and wicks moisture quickly to the fabric’s surface.

Despite the heavy gauge material, our tester found it nearly impossible to work up a sweat and reported excellent temperature regulation from cold, early morning climbs to warm afternoon descents. A double layer of material in the fly of the men’s pants provides additional wind-resistance, without sweat build up. $59.95; 9.4 oz. (men’s medium) men’s S-XXL, women’s XS to XL, polarmax.com.
