Gear Review: Pelican Elite Case i1075 Portable Office

Never be more than a click away with this portable office from Pelican.

[portable office]

Need to stay connected while on the go? The Elite Case stores an iPad, wireless Apple keyboard, charging units, and other gadgets in a water/dust/crushproof package that doubles as a screen-propping workstation. “Trip plans can change at a moment’s notice,” says our tester. “And sometimes I need to get work done while on far-flung travels. I’ve used the Elite as a portable office to stay productive and research alternative treks.”

The case (and expensive items inside) survived several 3-foot drops onto asphalt from trail-bound vehicles, the crushing weight of hundreds of pounds of gear, and thousands of miles of off-road and in-air travel, thanks to high-impact ABS polymer casing. The Elite Case’s size (12.4” x 9.8” x 2.1”) and weight make it too burly for multiday treks, but it’s a great addition to car-camping and kayaking kits (it’s submersible to three feet). Not an iPad user? Pelican has cases for tablets and laptops. $85; 2 lbs. 9 oz.; pelicanprogear.com
