Gear Review: Patagonia Merino 1 Baselayer

This hybrid is part merino wool and part recycled polyester&ndashthe result being a fast-drying, non-stinking baselayer.

Most Versatile

Get the best of both worlds. This hybrid is made with 63 percent fine merino wool wrapped around a recycled polyester core.

Result: Testers wore the long-sleeved crew for a week straight in soggy Wales and it dried faster than a standard all-wool shirt, yet never worked up a stink like a synthetic–and we’ve been wearing it for six months since with zero signs of wear.

Fit is loose, which some testers liked for everyday use, but which others found too baggy. $90; 5 oz.; men’s S-XL, women’s XS-XL; patagonia.com.
