Gear Review: Outlast Mid-Weight Base Layers

Outlast fabric regulates your body temperature for you.

[most versatile]

This bicomponent fabric—polyester (outside) and Outlast acrylic (inside)—keeps you comfortable through fluctuating conditions. The claim: Fibers absorb body heat when you’re hot and release it as you cool, helping you maintain a constant temp. The verdict: It works, says our Oregon tester, who skied, hiked, biked, and climbed in temps from the single digits to the 40s. The cut could use a style update (it’s narrow through the arms and waist), but the fabric didn’t pill and passed the three-day stink test. $27 (top or bottom); 5.6 oz. (w’s S); men’s M-XXL, women’s S-XL; kenyonconsumer.com
