Gear Review: Outdoor Research Hat for All Seasons
A two-in-one hat that keeps out cold and precipitation.
[best two-in-one]
Function definitely trumps fashion here. Our tester hesitated to pack this hat at first (“I don’t need an Elmer to help me look dorky!”), but he was won over by the two-in-one utility. The Gore-Tex Paclite shell sheds rain like an umbrella, thanks to a long brim and low earflaps. And the removable fleece liner adds serious warmth when used with the shell, a touch of breathable insulation when worn without.
Both fit securely—together or alone. And when our tester got hammered by a late-fall storm in Wyoming’s Wind Rivers—and his partner had forgotten a hat—our tester had two. $65; 4.2 oz. (L, mfr.); M, L, XL; orgear.com
