Gear Review: Mountain Hardwear Shadowland Jacket

A windproof jacket with a warm, brushed tricot lining.

[warmest]

This hoodless jacket has a brushed tricot lining that adds warmth like an extra layer. On a three-day spring trip up Mt. Whitney, one tester found it perfect for tossing on over a T-shirt when temps were in the 50s. “The fuzzy hand pocket lining saved the day when I forgot my gloves,” he reports.

The lining adds weight and reduces breathability compared to unlined shells, but the ripstop nylon is laminated with Conduit, which stops wind dead and repels light rain (seams aren’t taped, so it’s not waterproof). Bummer: Loose elastic cuffs let wind creep in. $130; 14 oz.; men’s S-XXL; mountainhardwear.com
