Gear Review: Millet 350
This lightweight shell is mountain ready.
The Millet 350 feels too light to withstand high-altitude winter weather, but don’t be fooled: Our tester wore it atop a 10,000-foot Colorado summit getting scoured by 30-mph wind and blowing snow, and he couldn’t find a weakness. The Gore-Tex Paclite shell breathes so well, our tester says, “I rarely needed to open the pit zips to stay cool on sweaty climbs.”
The jacket’s cut is smart—a pack’s hipbelt fit just between the hand pockets and hem drawcord—and it allows plenty of mobility. Adjusting the well-tailored hood was easy, even while wearing gloves, since the elastic and toggles are on the outside of the fabric. Concluded our tester, “With this shell, you get alpine features and bomber protection for the weight of a wispy rain jacket.” $350; 12 oz. (m’s M); milletusa.com
