Gear Review: Lafuma Warm 'n Light 600 Sleeping Bag

This affordable bag is great for above-40s temps.

Bargain

If you’ll be camping in temps that rarely dip below the mid-40s, get this affordable bag and pocket the change. It’s stuffed with 650-fill down instead of the pricier 800-fill, which dramatically lowers the cost (a higher fill-power number indicates loftier and more compressible down). But the Warm ‘n Light still packs down smaller than a cantaloupe, since it has just enough insulation for the mildest nights.

“It was great in the 60s with the full-length zipper open, and perfect for nights in the 50s,” said one tester after a Sonoran Desert stint. “But even with the hood and neck drawcords cinched tight, I started to shiver at 45°F.” The rugged ripstop nylon shell survived several nights on slickrock atop a shortie pad. The mummy shape is comfortable, not constricting, and testers especially liked the roomy footbox.

$120; 40°F; 1 lb. 5 oz.; 1 men’s and 1 women’s (Down Lady) size; lafumausa.com.
