Gear Review: L.L. Bean Goose Down Jacket

For the cost, you won't find a warmer down jacket.

The warmth-to-dollars ratio on this 650-fill down jacket is off the charts. One tester packed it as her main insulation on a seven-day backcountry ski tour in Norway’s fjord region, where nights dipped below freezing and 18 hours of daily sunlight meant long hours lingering on the Folgefonna Glacier. “The roomy cut accommodates layers, and the long hem traps heat,” she says. The ripstop nylon shell is tough and breathable. Downside: It’s heavy and bulky.
