Gear Review: Jones Solution Splitboard

Go-everywhere versatility and resort-board stability in one light package.

Problem: You can’t get go-everywhere versatility and resort-board stability in one light package.

Solution: the Solution. Our tester rode Breckenridge corduroy, fresh pow on Berthoud Pass, and mashed potatoes on a spring tour in Iceland’s Westfjords, and the ride was dreamy and confident throughout. “With the blunt nose and rockered tip, it never faltered in crust, and I could quickly float in the fluff,” he says.

The board locks into ride mode tighter than any other we tested, thanks to the camming action of the two steel latches. Cool feature: “magne-traction.” In tour mode, one edge of each plank is serrated, giving you seven points of edge contact with the snow, rather than just two. “I could climb steeper terrain without slipping,” he says. Caveat: price.
