Gear Review: Hilleberg Keron 3 Tent
A roomy tunnel tent that's quick to set up.

“Luxuriously roomy,” declares our 6’6” editor-in-chief, who shared it with two colleagues on our three-day glacier hike in Norway. It feels much larger than its dimensions (37 square feet with 42 inches of headroom), thanks to near-vertical sidewalls and consistent space from head to foot. The inner tent and fly are attached, making setup fast, even in big gusts.
Just feed the three poles through the sleeves and stake out the webbing loops that fit skis or snowshoes (a great winter technique). An Oregon tester reports, “Fourteen guy points let me really batten it down. When the wind kicked up to 20-plus mph one night near Three Sisters, there wasn’t so much as a riffle of nylon.” Snow and precip slide right off of the Quonset hut shape.
Two large doors make midnight escapes easy, even for the middle sleeper, and full-zip panels over mesh allow adjustable ventilation.
