Gear Review: High Gear ATF8 Watch

Clips to your pack for easy access to stats like temperature and altitude

On every trip there’s a go-to person for vital stats like altitude, time, direction, barometric pressure, temperature, and other geeky calibrations. That person is usually me, which is why I loved having the ATF8 on board.

Watches with similar features are usually bulky (especially for women) and difficult to read under multiple layers, but not this design: I could clip it to my pack strap for easy access, or use the kickstand on a flat surface so anyone in the group could take a peek. Recalibration is a cinch and was only necessary a few times during several months of use. Gripe: The small side buttons are difficult to operate when wearing gloves. $170; 1.5 oz.; highgear.com.
