Gear Review: Helly Hansen HH Dry Balaclava

Made with Helly Hansen's Lifa material, this balaclava wicks and dries super quickly.

“Excellent baselayer for under a helmet,” says our tester, a Colorado Front Range park ranger. He wore this 100-percent polypro balaclava (it’s made from the same Lifa material found in HH’s baselayers) skiing when the windchill hit -40°F. “The fabric wicks and dries super quickly, and it’s so lightweight and breathable I never overheated.”

Flatlock stitching and a simple design (there’s just a large circular cutout for your eyes, nose, and mouth) contributes to a low-bulk profile that fits easily under most helmets and even tucks easily under a hat.
