Gear Review: Grivel Air Tech Helmet
An ultralight helmet with 16 vents.
[best alpine helmet]
Skiers might remove their helmets during the ascent, but mountaineers shouldn’t. Alpine testers loved this 16-vent ultralight lid, which channels airflow around your head and out the back, keeping you cool.
With a polycarbonate shell, impact-absorbing foam, and metal mesh over the top vents (to deflect sharp debris), protection is bomber. “It worked great on a spring climb of Mt. Rainier,” says one tester. “Yet it’s so well-vented, I’ll use it rock climbing in summer.” The vents don’t close, so in deep cold, add a hat. $109; 10 oz.; libertymountainclimbing.com
