Gear Review: Eastern Mountain Sports Mountain Light 20 Sleeping Bag

A three-season sleeping bag that's warm, efficient, and tough.

Verdict

On glacier-covered slopes in the Arctic Circle, this bag was my haven when wind, freezing rain, and snow buffeted my tent and temps hit the mid-20s. The cloud-soft overlapping baffles are filled with 750-fill down, the mummy shape is thermally efficient without squeezing like a sarcophagus, and the tough, 30-denier Pertex Microlight shell formed a force-field against condensation, even when I packed the bag damp. It disappeared into my expedition pack. Caution: As with many 20°F bags, you’ll want to layer up or use a liner when temps really bottom out at the rating. ems.com
