Gear Review: Columbia Silver Ridge Crew

A tee-shirt designed for super-hot weather

When hot weather makes wearing any shirt seem unbearable, pull on the Columbia Silver Ridge Crew (or women’s Bonita Loca). This tee’s slippery Omnifreeze fabric felt cool on testers’ skin, thanks to flat—not round—fibers, which allow more surface-area-to-skin contact.

“It’s thin and silky yet sucks moisture as well as a chamois cloth,” reports one wearer. The women’s version (a basic V-neck tee) has four-way stretch for unrestricted movement while hiking or paddling; the men’s shirt features vertical mesh vents behind the pits. $35; 1 oz. (w’s M); $40; 9 oz. (m’s M); columbia.com
