Gear Review: Bushnell BackTrack D-TOUR

This budget-friendly, no-frills device delivers basic safety and positioning without adding weight.

This budget-friendly, no-frills device delivers basic safety and positioning without adding weight. The D-TOUR tracks mileage, speed, temperature, and bearing. And if you’re lost? This is your get-out-of-the-woods-free card. You can mark five waypoints and navigate back to each by following the digital compass.

There’s no map display, and it doesn’t export GPX data, but if you love maps, like us, you’ll dig the ability view your data on Google Maps through the D-TOUR’s desktop app. Satellite acquisition took about 10 minutes under dense cover in the Smokies, while a standalone GPS locked in less than two minutes.

Head scratch: We found discrepancies with calculations—at one point, the unit was off by one-half mile. Resetting helped get it back on track. Three AAAs lasted roughly 50 hours.
