Gear Review: Brooks Cascadia 5 Trail Runners

Good trail feel, and protection, in these trail runners.

Verdict

Whether you’re training for a big trip or want an ultralight hiker with good cushion and traction, these trail runners deliver. The low-profile sole package, combined with a triangular tread pattern that grips in every direction, kept me stable on varied terrain—even on spring runs when the path changed from slick clay to rock slabs in 10 strides. Low-bulk forefoot protection prevents stingers, yet still provides good trail feel. Bonus: Laces are 100 percent recycled. brooksrunning.com
