Gear Review: Bollé Rainier Sunglasses

For changing conditions, look no further than these specks by Bollé.

Fogless performance in all conditions made the Rainier a tester favorite for ski tours under both overcast and bluebird skies. The photochromic lens fluctuates from 10 to 38 percent Virtual Light Transmission*, so it’s suitable for all but the dimmest, snowiest days (when you want a VLT as high as 70 percent). The wraparound frame kept light from sneaking in around the periphery during sunny, high-elevation tours near Colorado’s Hidden Treasure Yurt. Polarized lenses provide sharp, high-definition visibility on snow and other high-glare environments. Vents at the temples and a hydrophobic lens coating virtually eliminate fogging. “Even when I stopped moving, they never steamed up,” says a tester. Note: The lenses are made with impact-resistant Trivex, which is lighter than polycarbonate and more optically clear—but it scratches just as easily, so handle with care. $160; 1 oz.; bolle.com
