Gear Review: Black Diamond Enforcer Waterproof Gloves

Great winter climbing gloves thanks to a Gore-Tex lining and EVA padding across the knuckles.

“Like force fields for your hands,” said one tester after a drippy March ice-climbing session at Hidden Falls in Rocky Mountain National Park. Credit the Gore-Tex lining and compression-molded EVA padding across the knuckles for its no-leak, no-bruise performance.

“The four-way-stretch nylon shell gives the glove a snug feel without restricting grip or finger movement,” says our tester. “And the gauntlet comes just past the wrist, ensuring that no ice-melt sneaks up your sleeve.” Though the Enforcer is designed for climbing, testers also praised it as a standout cold-day ski glove. When a skier’s gloves wetted out after one lap on Colorado’s Berthoud Pass (see page 9), our tester lent him these:

“The PrimaLoft insulation and bomber waterproofing saved my hands and let me get in two more runs,” says the beneficiary. Bonus: The Gore-Tex membrane covers the exterior of the insulated lining, speeding dry times if the glove gets clammy while you’re skinning.
