Gear Review: Black Diamond Aspect Harness
The Aspect will take you anywhere a harness needs to go.
[all-purpose harness]
Can one harness really do it all? If you haven’t already collected an ultralight sport climbing harness, another for minimalist alpine climbing, and an ice climbing rig with all the extras for your ice screws and tools—don’t start. The Aspect has you covered. It sports four Ice Clipper slots for screws and tools, four stiff and sturdy gear loops for draws and rock protection, and leg and waist adjustability that allows for bulky clothing in really cold climates. Our testers were beyond pleased with the comfort after taking several whippers in their local climbing gym, thanks to the Dual Core XP Construction that features an EVA foam insert in the waistband; it distributes weight and eliminates pressure points. The Aspect has the comfort for hanging on sport routes all day as well as the adjustability and light weight for roping up on low-5th-class scrambles. The Lotus is the women’s version, with a thoughtfully designed waistbelt that rises on each side to fit perfectly between the hips and the rib cage. Testers found sizing to be a bit small, so size up for the best fit. $60; 14 oz. (men’s medium); blackdiamondequipment.comÂ
