Trying to stretch your shoe budget this year? Get this low-cut, waterproof hiker. An Alaska tester said, “For a light shoe, this thing rocks on long dayhikes and light overnight trips.” He praised the fairly stiff midsole, which has a plastic shank, and said both the arch support and comfort improved every time he wore them. The proprietary membrane kept out water even when he stood in a lagoon, and proved reasonably breathable.
A single-pull lacing system lets you adjust fit with one hand, but doesn’t permit independent tuning of the forefoot and ankle. One caution: We’ve seen some Ahnus blow out from hard use, but the Lodi is still going strong after six months. It runs small; go up a half-size.
