Fjällräven Ovik Re-Wool Shirt
Best flannel
Here’s a layer we didn’t know we needed until we used it. During four months of testing, the Ovik excelled in a wide range of environments—it repelled light rain during drizzly hikes on Colorado’s Western Slope, and doubled as a warm shacket on alpine starts in northern Arizona. The recycled, midweight wool-and-polyamide fabric offers the perfect combination of breathability for warmer days (we were comfortable up to 70°F) and comfort on cooler days (down to 40°F, and lower if you’re active) when worn with a light baselayer. You can also flip and button the collar up to seal out wind. Bonus: The oversize chest pockets easily fit snacks and a compass. Ding: weight.
