Exped Synmat HL Duo Winter M Sleeping Pad

Double-wide winter pad

Brand: Exped

Model: Synmat HL Duo Winter M

2lbs. 5oz.

Our take

“Winter camping makes for some long nights, but they’re a lot easier when I can snuggle up to my significant other,” says one Colorado tester, which is why he chose the Duo for frigid, cuddle-worthy evenings. The Duo is slightly wider than a pair of standard 20-inch sleeping pads, and although it tapers down to 32 inches at the foot, our testers had no issues with roominess. The Duo boasts a 5.0 R-value (suitable for snow-camping), thanks to synthetic insulation, and packs down to the size of a loaf of bread.

The details

Separate air chambers on each side let both sleepers tailor the firmness to their tastes. As with other Exped double wides, full deflation is a little laborious. Note: The Duo is also available in a 77.6 x 51.2 x 2.8-inch version if you want even more elbowroom. The only tradeoff? It’s pricey.

Trail cred

“We used the Duo on subfreezing nights in Norway while doing some spring touring, and I couldn’t feel any cold spots while sleeping on snow,” one tester says.
