Exped Skyline 15

Most Versatile

Brand: Exped

Model: Skyline 15

Our take This daypack can handle dense loads, and an innovative suspension lets you switch between a back-hugging fit for better stability and a trampoline-style carry with enhanced ventilation.

Versatility The most unique feature about the Skyline? You can choose stability or ventilation simply by changing tension on a strap (tighten it to create a trampoline-style backpanel). A tester who hiked the Jordan Trail in temps that reached 113°F says, “I wore the packbag close to my back when I was boulder hopping, but for the straight-out desert crossing, venting mode gave me some relief.” Note: The Switch suspension is available on larger capacity models as well.

Load transfer A plastic framesheet and two thin, steel stays provide better-than-expected load capacity for a pack this size. One California-tester reported carrying loads up to 20 pounds with no pain.

Weatherproofing A PU coating and DWR treatment provide water resistance and durability. Unlike many packs this size, this one comes with a detachable rain cover.

Comfort Dense EVA foam wings are 11 inches long and nearly 5 inches wide where they attach to the pack. The soft, pliable material wraps securely around the hips with no dead space, offering above-average comfort for a daypack.

Durability Side hipbelt pockets are made with the same robust 210-denier ripstop nylon as the packbag in lieu of fragile mesh. “After 60 days of rough desert travel and canyoneering, it’s undamaged,” says a tester.
