Edelrid Slash

Workhorse Quickdraw

Brand: Edelrid

Model: Slash

Whether you’re a longtime climber or just starting out, the Slash quickdraw is a great choice because it’s durable enough for the abuses of sport climbing but light enough for traditional and alpine. The straight gate carabiner clips smoothly to bolts or “trad” protection (cams, nuts, etc.), while the bend in the gate of the rope-side carabiner helps it receive the rope more fluidly when clipping. “The Slash has the best clipping action of the 10 other draws I’ve used in the past few years,” one tester says. “It’s snappy enough to close quickly but not so stiff that it’s difficult to get the rope in there,” says another. A rubber “keeper” on the rope-end carabiner wraps around the webbing, keeping it in place and preventing the bottom biner from swinging wildly while you’re trying to clip. And the 16mm polyester sling is wide enough to grab in moments of desperation. These are the quickdraws we take everywhere, whether we’re sport climbing, toproping, or trad climbing.
