Dynafit Speedfit Dynastretch Pants

Best for touring laps

Brand: Dynafit

Model: Speedfit Dynastretch

Our take

The SpeedFit splits the difference between weather protection and moisture management. Its back half is made of a thin, brushed polyester-elastane blend that trades weatherproofing for great breathability, which effectively managed heat even when we were breaking trail in powder. The rear rarely wetted out as long as we were moving forward, even in heavy spring snow. The forward-facing half of the pants features a heavier, abrasion-resistant stretch nylon that feels like a softshell; while not waterproof, its DWR coating shrugged off heavy snow we encountered on tours around Jackson, Wyoming. Four-way stretch is excellent: One tester says his hamstrings would fail way before the material reached its limits.

The details

Reinforced gaiters on the instep kept us from slicing our pants while trail running with microspikes. Ankle zips open up to 8 inches in diameter to accomodate ski boots, and the low-profile waistband feels good under a pack’s hipbelt.

Trail cred

“These pants are great for winter trail running,” one tester says. “The trim fit doesn’t snag on branches, and the peached lining feels excellent next to skin.” dynafit.com
