Dead Flashlight Battery Blues

Keep your flashlights and headlamps alive longer with these trail tips.

Flashlights have the annoying habit of switching on when they bump up against something else in your pack. The kind that turn on with a twist of the bulb housing are less prone to sudden fits of lighting up. Three ways to keep flashlights from impulsively declaring, “let there be light”:

  • Tape the switch into the off position.
  • Take out the batteries.
  • Put the batteries in a dysfunctional upside-down position.
