Lots of winter boots are warm, but the Mountain 600 can go toe-to-toe with your bedroom slippers in terms of comfort. “I have sensitive feet and thought for sure I’d at least get a hot spot on steep climbs, but it never happened,” said one Colorado tester after an initial foray up 14,042-foot Mt. Lindsey. The plushness comes courtesy of a fleece lining, which never got too clammy. Rubber in the EVA midsole adds durability, making for a cushy ride that will last over hard miles.
THE DETAILS
Thanks to the Vibram Megagrip outsole—sticky rubber and diamond-shaped lugs—our tester easily scrambled up Colorado’s Tour de Abyss, a 5-mile, mud- and scree-filled hike with 3,000 feet of elevation gain. A mid-foot nylon shank supports packs up to 30 pounds, but isn’t so beefy that it inhibits a natural gait (the supple leather upper helps, too). And a waterproof membrane kept our feet dry when we were bashing through snowfields in Iceland’s West Fjords.
