Brand: Cotopaxi
Model: Sueño
Our take As much as we love logging big miles, we’ve also been known to enjoy plenty of campfires with a little whiskey and a lot of stargazing. Thanks to a full wraparound zip, this chameleon converts into a giant, 128-inch wide camp blanket—perfect for sharing with your sweetie. In mummy mode, the 800-fill duck down Sueño is roomy and warm, making it a great choice for dedicated comfort campers. “It suits all the different kind of camping I do,” says a tester who used it in Colombia, Iceland, and Colorado.
The details There’s a secondary half-length zip on the opposite side of the primary one; opening it let us flip the top of the bag down almost to our hips, which was perfect for venting on balmy summer nights. This bag only comes in one size with oversized dimensions: 62 inches wide at the shoulder, and the length fits anyone up to 6’6”. We loved the extra space on moderate to warmer nights, but smaller testers felt a chill when the temp dropped below freezing. Bummer: It’s nearly impossible to cinch the large hood down tight enough to completely seal out the cold.
Trail cred “I fell in love with this bag over four months of testing because it’s so versatile,” says a tester. “I used it for four rainy nights of backpacking, and my boyfriend and I used it as a blanket while car camping.”
