Costa Sunglasses Slack Tide
Best all-around shades from the Fall/Winter 2018 Gear Guide.

Sunny, shady, cloudy, snowy, windy, and rainy were among the conditions we faced while wearing the Slack Tides—and they met the challenge. Costa caters to fishermen, but that ocean DNA—clarity and glare reduction—translates well to winter use. The key is twofold: The wide, rectangular frames offer enough coverage to block glare off the snow, while versatile, green-mirrored lenses have a copper base for high contrast in muted conditions. (Though we think the Green Mirror lens is best for winter and all-around use, the Slack Tides are available in six other options.) The lenses fit faces of all sizes, but one smaller-faced tester reported that the arms didn’t sit right on her ears.
TRAIL CRED
“The Slack Tide never slipped, even when I was working hard, booting up a sun-warmed couloir,” one tester says, crediting the rubber nose pad. “They fogged at the edges when I stopped moving, but almost immediately cleared back up, thanks to the temple vents.”
