Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Best overall performance

Brand: Canon

Model: EOS 5D Mark IV

The 5D Mark IV is the top DSLR money can buy, period. Canon’s most powerful low-light performance yet, coupled with an ISO range of 100 to 32000, takes memorable shots in dark environments where other cameras struggle. The 5D is not just a creature of the night, though: When shooting in direct sunlight, details that are usually lost in highlights are fully revealed. It even has a feature that allows you to tweak the focus of a photo long after you’ve taken it. It can shoot the aurora borealis, wildflowers at midday, or even something as simple as group photos around the campfire with an exceptional clarity that justifies the cost. Given everything that the 5D can do, it’s a bummer that it doesn’t shoot better video.
