Camera Review: Casio Exilim EX-S500

Capture every backcountry moment with this wafer-slim digital camera

This nearly wafer-slim digital almost makes you forget the days (um, like last year) when 5-megapixel cameras were the size of Ludlum paperbacks and weighed almost as much. This ultralight tips the scales at only 4.6 ounces, yet it shoots pictures good enough to reproduce in a magazine. On test trips, we were blown away by the feature set: an anti-shake feature cuts down blurry photos; the blazing shutter speed freezes animals in full flight; and the 12x optical and digital zoom gets you nose-hair close. Not enough? You can also shoot video, and the rechargeable lithium-ion battery (included) is good for 200 shots on a charge even if you preview them on the 2.2-inch LCD screen.

Price:$350

Weight: 4.6 oz.
