Boot Review: Salomon Expert Low

Not the best for long days and heavy loads, but great for fastpacking.

Our testers have pounded these shoes from the slot canyons of Utah’s San Rafael Swell to the top of the Swiss Alps. The verdict: Excellent rigidity for off-trail edging, roomy toebox for all-day comfort, and bomber construction that includes a wraparound rubber toe cap. Underfoot cushion is a bit lacking for long days with heavy loads, but for all-purpose fastpacking, these shoes are a bargain. Best for medium-volume feet. Also available in waterproof and midcut models.

Price: $85
