Boat Review: Custom Inflatables Thrillkat

Just back from a 75-mile whitewater run down the rocky, twisting Escalante River, Rocky Mountain editor Steve Howe says of this cataraft, “It was drier, more comfortable, and way more maneuverable than an inflatable kayak. The twin-tube design ferried effortlessly across currents, spun tight eddy turns, and even surfed waves, all thanks to stiff, 12-inch diameter tubes and a pronounced rocker. The fabric-reinforced PVC material showed zero wear from numerous collisions with streambed rocks. Glue on some D-rings for better cargo carrying, and it’ll handle 2-week, Class III-IV expeditions no problem.” At the take-out, he folded the deflated boat into a 20″x18″x5″ package, strapped the foam seat and thwarts to his backpack, and hiked out.
