Model: First Light Hoody
Midlayers come in all shapes and styles. You want sauna warmth? Grab a Michelin Man-style puffy. You want ultrabreathable? A streamlined hybrid puffy is for you. You want something that’s weather-resistant? Find a synthetic puffy. You want a little bit of everything? You want the First Light Hoody.
It’s not the best at any one thing, but the First Light Hoody emerged as the layer everyone wanted to wear. Its synthetic PrimaLoft Silver Active insulation packed enough deep-winter warmth that we reached for it when ski-touring in single-digit temps and hanging around camp in the 20s. Meanwhile, it proved so breathable, we never had to ditch it on days when changing sun, wind, and temps conspired to make it too cold to wear just a baselayer and too warm to wear a traditional puffy. Better still, the Schoeller nylon face fabric adds impressive water resistance, thanks to a Nanosphere treatment that makes it harder for water (or dirt) to adhere to the surface; precip shook right off after we lashed it to the outside of a pack during a snowstorm or wore it on misty climbs. And yes, we wear it around town, too. Men’s S-XL, women’s XS-XL
