Why we like it: Tech fanatics will be in heaven thanks to the integrated solar panel and accessory gadgets.

Technology: In addition to the 7-watt Goal Zero solar panel, this first-of-its-kind tent comes with a lantern and handheld fan (both rechargeable) and a battery pack that holds enough juice to fill a smartphone twice. The solar panel sits on top of the tent where it can capture a full charge in three hours, and the cord snakes in through a waterproof port. Testers loved the on-demand power: “I used the battery pack to keep my cell phone charged,” said our tester after a three-night trip near the Continental Divide in Colorado. “When I first saw the tent, I thought, ‘This isn’t camping.’ But then the lantern saved my butt when I forgot a headlamp.” Note: MtnGlo, which won a 2015 Editors’ Choice Award, lights the interior and has a dedicated battery supply. For unplugged wilderness time, ditch the gadgets and save 1 pound 12 ounces.

Livability: The 29-square-foot floor is right in the sweet spot for two-person tents—adequate space, saves weight. The 39-inch ceiling is better than most tents in its class. “We’re both 6 foot and had enough room to get dressed at the same time,” says our Colorado tester. Two doors, each with a full-sized vestibule, plus four internal pockets make for easy, clutter-free living.

Packability: Even with all the gizmos stored in the stuffsack’s stow pocket, the whole package still compresses to 16 by 9 inches, thanks to the lightweight nylon fly and canopy material (20- and 30-denier, respectively).
