Support Testers shouldered 50-plus-pound packs, strapped on crampons, and trudged through early-fall snow—and report that the Shiraz performed famously. Support comes from a shock-absorbing PU heel insert and a supportive midsole made of dual-density rubber and a stiff, full-length TPU shank.
Protection A tall rubber rand—like the bathtub floor of a tent—and a board-lasted sole kept our Oregon tester’s feet protected and stable on the Mt. St. Helens Worm Flows climbing route and trails around Mt. Hood, where melting snow covered unseen roots, rocks, and holes.
Comfort Once broken in (it took most testers about 20 miles of hiking), these boots are all-day comfy, especially in the heel and Achilles areas. While many other boots have heel cups that go straight up and down, the Shiraz’s cup is curved vertically, evening pressure around the contour of the heel and eliminating heel slip.
breathability The suede, Schoeller Keprotech, and Gore-Tex upper is tough and waterproof yet highly porous, so it’s more breathable than many other combos we’ve tried.
