Amundsen Sports Peak Anorak

Best features

Brand: Amundsen Sports

Model: Peak Anorak

Our take It was the little things that made the biggest impressions with the Peak Anorak. “The kanragoo pouch was perfect for stashing items I needed quick access to, like skins or gloves,” as it steers clear of hipbelts and fits more than hand pockets, one tester says. More smart details: a full-length side zip that makes pulling it on and off easy (and provides extra venting, along with the chest half-zip); an extended hem that kept us dry when we sat in snow; a helmet-compatible hood that shielded us from wind-whipped ice in Denali; and a forearm pocket that fit a sunblock stick and keys.

The Details The pores in the Schoeller waterproof membrane expand with heat and contract in colder conditions—a presto change-o that proved remarkably breathable (but slightly less so than The North Face L5 LT). “After a below-freezing start hauling a pulk sled in Alaska, I kept this on longer than I expected to, even when the sun hit,” one tester says. Minus: It’s heavy.

Trail cred “The athletic cut allowed freedom of movement for ski touring, even when I wore the anorak over a bunch of other layers,” one tester notes.
