adidas Terrex Swift Mountain Summer Jacket Review

A combination of double- and single- weave nylon makes this jacket extra breathable.

Brand: Adidas

Model: Terrex Swift Mountain Summer Jacket

[multisport]

Why we like it
This versatile softshell’s hybrid construction—using two types of fabric—makes it extra-breathable during high-exertion activities.

Breathability A denser double-weave nylon (it features two interwoven sets of yarn) on the main body increases weather protection and durability, and a thinner, single-weave, nylon-elastane blend on the sides and back provides maximum venting. When testers did start sweating, the inner lining quickly wicked moisture away from the skin.

Protection
“Perfect for working hard in drizzle, mist, and wind,” says one Seattle tester who used the Mountain Summer while hiking, mountain biking, and running. But don’t let the name fool you: “With just a lightweight baselayer underneath, it kept me warm and dry into the 30s.” A chin-grazing collar and adjustable hood let testers batten down the hatches when the winds in the Cascades kicked up to 30 mph (but it’ll have to go under, not over, a helmet). A stiff brim shielded our eyes in drippy weather. The DWR-treated fabric handled light rain for hours, but in a downpour, the shell wet out after 15 minutes.

Fit
The form-fitting cut enhances wicking and eliminates excess fabric flapping in the wind, and the slim silhouette helps it slide neatly under a climbing harness.

Ding Fuller-figured female testers found the cut somewhat constricting.
